a huge sigh of relieve

looks like we made it, whilst everyone was involved with county and league cup finals we had a massive game of our own and put up a good account of ourselves at storthes hall,

the 1-1 draw keeps us in the division unless overthorpe beat brighouse by 59 goals.

its a tough league and hopefully we'll be better prepared for next season. dont want to be in this position again but cant see who else will be the weak links next year if we get our act together.
admin

The league will be very strong next season.
Chaddy

IW at least youve had a mini celebration, like i said at the beginning of the season, theres only two teams that celebrate and thats them who win the league and them who just beat the drop,

well done lads anyway!

Ps unless you win the cups of course.

watched the game, Ardsley was defintely up for it more than storthes hall, you had a busy little player in the no6 but was always on his arse when tackling, big lad up front looked a bit of an handfull, but you deserved your point. congratulations on staying up.

We definatly had plenty of motivation on monday. Good team performance against a good Storthes side who know how to play there home pitch.

Its fantastic for us to stay in the league after a difficult season (Also think other clubs will be happy to keep our facility in the prem). I know IW has big plans to improve us next year...... Fingers crossed for better effort from the majority of our players, me included.

I was the big lad upfront, getting somewhere near after a long road back to fitness after a bad injury, typical the season is nearly over!!! Looking forward to next season and hopefully getting a run of games under my belt.
craig123

Glad you stayed up.Especially for Jack your secretary. Watched you at Marsden at the beginning of season, looked a decent side. Bet you guys have given Jack some heartache this season, wondering if you were going to stay up.Good pitch, but is ever not windy over there.
IW

cheers craig, jack is a truly fantastic bloke.

however without being dramatic i've decided to decline taking the first team next season.

Catty has been the manager this year and i have helped/hindered wherever i can. next year we hoped he would get back playing and not have to deal with off the field issues and i would manage the club off the field. He's a top player and a top lad. However he has decided that he doesnt want to be involved anymore, and i'm not surprised. we only had 10 available men at Kirkburton and that is a reflection of how the players feel about him.

(apologies to Dean and the lads at Kirkburton who were great,)

i truly believed i could take the side on again next season and develop with Tingley Athletic into a special club.

Great ideas a good ethic but unfortunately we dont have the players or committee to do it and without the draw of players (who follow catty not me) we will struggle.

Many first team players are stopping this year and the big plans john mentions appear to be falling at the first hurdle.

I've a boy of 8 who i should spend more time with rather than dedicating it to a bunch of people who i dont believe would reciprocate my efforts.

IW - This is disappointing news. I loved reading your match reports on here.

IW

Not what I wanted to hear but on the other hand fully understand your decision.

Not sure what the way forward will be for AC now.

We have tried an outsider with new ideas (Dave Haley), that clearly didnt work and players didnt respond.
Catty and Myself have both tried to do it and failed to motivate and inspire people who we call friends.
Victor Mature

Hells teeth IW - That's come as a massive shock to me and very dissappointing to hear!

If the players within the club showed the commitment and efforts you and Catty show we would be flying high in the Prem division!

We'll have a catch up about it!
Chaddy

this sounds alot like marsden about 5 years ago!
people not putting the effort in, all i can say is just keep trying cos it might just pay off,
IW

following a few conversations and the guarantees by certain players and committee members i've done a u turn in the style of a woman and decided i will take the job on next season.

i dont want to turn the club into eastenders, i hope those who have spoken on my behalf and support my proposals will give the commitment to the club.

I think in thruth we could only see one result by carrying on the way we were.

I dont want to turn it into a dictatorship at all or seem like a baby, but harsh decisions and implementations do need to be made.

I'm sure this is the same at all clubs. The managers are only as good as he players and their commitment,

we are a premier team, we have to act like one or we wont be for long.

Thanks for the support to those who know they deserve it. hopefully it will last.

Could i ask how many premier teams currently pay subs and how they structure their club. My first requirement is that we do all we can to ensure first teqam do not pay subs.

thoughts please
melonman

IR Baboon you are either a sucker for punishment or soft. Unless these dramatic changes you infer are backed up and the committee commit to you on all fronts then the mentality at the club is and has been for as while to turn up and play when they feel like. I for one wish you well son and hope you turn it around.

Ps you need another way of funding if you are to stop first team subs and even then you know what you'll get from the Jossies.
IW

thank you el melonman, what would hitler do?
topGk

dont know how u could manage without players paying subs. as a club we have 3 teams and all pay subs (despite what some people think about our players getting payed) and we still struggle to raise finances. you should try and establish a team that your players are happy to pay to play in, if not look for players that are. Our manager is ruthless when it comes to picking his team but his man management is top draw, and if he loses a player he simply finds a replacement (probably easier said than done) Stick to the philosephy that no player is bigger than the club and you should be alright.

must say i'm surprised at the fallout your having cos in the 2 games you played against us you proved your a good prem side.
craig123

You cant have 1st team players not paying subs. It will create resentment from 2nd team players and committee members who put their time and effort in for nothing. Like Frankie says, no player is bigger than the club.
physio

just to add to that believe it or not. hemsworth county side still pay subs.
admin

We try not to let the lads pay subs at Hall Green.  First or Reserves. You find a sponsor who pay £50 to cover your 'subs'.  If you can't find a sponsor you pay £30.  Less than a quid a game.  The club itself is quite a big club in fairness.  The clubhouse makes alot of money, footy in the winter, cricket in the summer. Plus darts & dominoes, pool and golf clubs all running out of it.
The juniors is a big contributer too.
All of it is well structured and run brilliantly by the volunteers, with lots of fundraising activities.  If you ever want advice IW then talk to my old man, he's the chief with all that!!
IW

you might find this a bit of a chuckle given our lowly position, however as a club linked with tingley we are not in too bad a financial position.

the eventual aim is that no one pays subs, the initial idea was that no one would pay subs if the team won, they would pay a quid or so for a draw and £3 for a defeat,

further proposals from within tingley believe the team can be funded without subs.

the remainder we can make up with fund raising and sponsorship, programme, events etc

a quick one for frankie, does anyone refuse to play first team football at Bay, preferring to play for to quote victure mateaur "the excellant team spirit" which comes from playing beneath yourself and winning easily every week.

what support does he get from the second team manager, does he select both squads?

thoughts again from others on how successfull thier reserve/first team interaction works.
admin

Just speaking from experience, when I was managing, I picked both teams and made sure we played the same formation in both sides. Anyone who didnt train, didnt play first team football and those who did train would be guaranteed a game unless we had more than 22 turn up.
But what do I know, we were relegated that season and in my first ever league game as a manager, Ardsley beat us 7-0 at our place.
melonman

ah the age old scenario of 1st and 2nd team, this is very difficult to resolve or deal with. My own personal point of view is that the 1st and 2nd team manager need to be on a level playing field and the clubs mentallity would be that both managers see and agree a way of developing players in which ever team they play in. If your 2nd team manager doesn't agree with what you want to implement then the donkey is dead before you start.
I would also suggest that there is a structure of players who train and commit to the club should get the oppotunities that arise for 1st team places and that the 2nd team players are brought through on merit and not just to fill in for a 1st team player or players that can't be arsed etc, once a 2nd team player has managed to push for a a 1st team place then this player needs to be developed and given time in the 1st team and not thrown back once the so called superstars are available again. If you want a club mentality then 'i'm playing my best players available everytime' cannot work only possibly on that match day but long term no cigar brother.
You and the 2nd team manager to me are numbers 1 and 2 in the club and you two need to agree the principles from the outset next year.

How do you like those apples IW.
IW

i agree totally and i think we all have the same ethic, the problem being is that if no one (two or three) trains or plays regularly the opportunity to gain spirit let alone constant selection seems a difficult challenge, you may recall in a previous life when the melon helped us win district cups etc.we had one team and players were selected on merit, remember mr humphreys was always selected.
melonman

Amen and good luck son
Albion1

Albion dont pay subs....how does anyone think they will fair this season in the Premier?
Big Man

Yeah, I'd heard that they don't pay either!

Should do alright in Prem though, if they put their best side out.
craig123

Depends how much they are paying ! Looks like Farsley have got some players that want paying. Or is it a myth that Albion pay their players ?
