ardsley 0 - marsden 32 candidates for goals of the season and a stunning display from the best keeper in the land was the big difference in this game.
we were severly depleated losing our new keeper and centre half (with broken jaw) from wednesday clash with HGU but we could have had the full man utd eleven playing and no one would have stopped the first goal which came after 15minutes a half which marsden had started much the stronger.
after that we came back in to the game and squandered a couple of clear cut opportunites. Ash also made a good save from a penalty and then followed it up with a save that we couldnt believe. we got round the back squared across only had to roll the ball in and he made up 6 yards to get some part of his body on it.
1-0 at half time. not much in it as game opened up, we pushed into three forwards and both sides had half chances.
then goal of the season contender no.2 , similar strike but possibly better. if the lad meant it good lord we even clapped.
one of them days where it all went right for marsden and all wrong for us. but i am the first to hold my hand up and applaud two great strikes from their forwards and a fantastic keeper and in between a good solid hard working marsden,
as for us we desperately need our forwards back from injury, our influential midfielders, centre half and keeper but no excuses everyone goes throught that at some stage.
cheers to the marsden lads for coming back to boozer buying programme, raffle tickets etc.

I remember 1 season ash saved 4 out of 5 pens in pre season, he also saved 4 in a penalty shootout final on sundays. Not licking arse but as IW states the best keeper this league has bar non! Unbelievable!

The best and most loyal [he has been asked a few times to play higher]Goalkeeper in our league is the guy with 3 league winners medals and thats Frankie at the Bay. Just ask Wibsey management team.

i would not dispute frankie's ability at all, a great keeper but i honestly believe we would have got something out of the game with any other keeper in goal other than ash conner, hopefully he'll drop a couple next saturday.

Their team couldnt score a goal past him and their big centre fwd never got a sniff when the constant high balls and crosses came in.Frankie caught everything.

its not really worth an arguement as on their day they are both excellent, i've seen much higher level teams without the quality in goal of both these two. wonder why they dont play higher?
from what i saw of Ash on saturday he could easily be playing pro.
from my experiences (albeit very brief) around that level keeprs are not much better if at all.
mind you if you saw the Newiss strike that was something else. Wasnt he getting in at meltham? quality from what i saw.
on the plus side our aftermatch pizza now incorporates pineapple so improvement all round

Agree IW, Ash is quality. He has played higher, Mossley for example. Nice to see he has come back to Marsden to support his brother and his mates. Grass is not always greener on tother side. The same can be said of Top GK. Was asked to go to Emley [ 50 or so quid a game] but stayed loyal to the Bay and his mates. Am sure there are loads more players in our league {Tom Mathews being 1] who have stayed loyal to the clubs who they started out with.

Ash actually played Pro at Rotherham, But as good as Frankie ishe is not in the same league Ash (metaphorically speaking)!
Newiss was getting in at Meltham but gets on better with the Marsden boys, the only reason why he left Marsden the other year was coz Ash left!

any chance they could both leave again before saturday?

Ha ha, ring Ash up and pretend to be Arry Redknapp, tell him you need cover for Carlo Cudicini and offer him £30,000 a week, when he leaves Newiss might too! Simples!

have you lot got nothing else to argue about, are you saying shane, that newi doesnt like any of us and only likes ash, i think your wrong, obviously missed the lads and banter,
he left to go back to meltham cos i think he felt like he had some unfinished trophy hunting to be carried out, which didnt work.
like the saying goes "grass isnt always greener on the other side"
Now thats fucking whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
